Patrick Surtain Sr. is a former professional American football player who played as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on June 19, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Surtain played college football at Southern Mississippi before being drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft.

During his career, Surtain played for the Miami Dolphins (1998-2004) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2005-2008). He was known for his exceptional coverage skills and agility, earning three Pro Bowl selections during his career. Surtain was also named a First-Team All-Pro in 2002.

After retiring from professional football, Surtain has worked as a defensive backs coach for various high school and college football teams. He has also served as the head football coach at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, where he has helped develop numerous high school players into college and NFL prospects.

Surtain's son, Patrick Surtain II, followed in his father's footsteps and also plays in the NFL as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos.
